Doris Elizabeth Van-Y
Doris Elizabeth Van-Y, Roscommon, died at the age of 77 at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, Nov. 17, 2007.
A service was held Nov. 20 at the Christler Funeral Home- Houghton Lake Chapel, with Pastor Alfred Bell officiating. Interment was in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Mrs. Van-Y was born in Midland Feb. 25, 1930, to the late Harry and Ellen (Barlett) Lewis. She and Alonzo Palmer "Lonnie" Van-Y were married May 27, 1952, in Angola, IN. Her husband preceded her in death July 4, 2007.
She worked as a culinary specialist for many years at General Motors before retiring in 1988. She and her husband moved to the Roscommon County area from Saginaw in 1973. She was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles Auxiliary, St. Helen American Legion Post 416 Auxiliary and St. Helen VFW Post Auxiliary.
Preceding Mrs. Van-Y in death were her husband; three sisters, Delores Thompson, Carolyn Lawrence and Evelyn Sutherland; and three brothers, Al Lewis, Ted Lewis and Richard Lewis.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam and her husband Gary Long of Roscommon and Carole and her husband Paul Pageau of Stoney Creek, Ontario; four sons, Mark and his wife Patricia Van-Y of Peoria, AZ, Larry Van-Y of Saginaw, Lyle and his wife Melanie Van-Y of St. Helen and Joseph and his wife Monica Van- Y of Bloomfield; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Savercool of Higgins Lake and Clara and her husband Joseph Bair of Houghton Lake; two brothers, Howard and his wife Jane Lewis of Prudenville and Orville and his wife Carol Lewis of Prudenville; and several nieces, nephews and
