Gail L. Ahrens

Gail L. Ahrens, 66, Grayling, died Nov, 17, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Traverse City, surrounded by her family.

A service was held Nov. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Traverse City. A memorial gathering will be held Nov. 27 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Houghton Lake. Mrs. Ahrens was born May 2, 1941, in Detroit. Her parents were Ella Leone (Haase) and Harold Eugene Chase. Following her graduation from high school, she attended Eastern Michigan University.

A life-long Lutheran, Mrs. Ahrens was known for her optimism, which she shared with those she met, and her love for her children and grandchildren. She was also known as a "people person," which served her well as an employee of Wal-Mart, Houghton Lake.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are her children, Neil and his wife Elizabeth of Boyne City, Laura and her husband Jim Shumate of Traverse City; grandchildren, Brian, Matthew, Allison and Christopher; sister, Carol Chesmar of Illinois; her former husband, Lee Ahrens of Torch Lake; cousins, DuWayne and Kathleen Gremel of Frankenmuth; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
