Bobcats beat Pioneers 64-39

The Houghton Lake Bobcat varsity basketball team took a 14 point first quarter lead and then coasted to a 64-39 Jack Pine Conference victory over the Clare Pioneers, Friday night on the Bobcat’s home court.

The Bobcats held a 38-18 lead at the half and were up 54-27 at the end of the third quarter. The Pioneers out scored the Bobcats 12-10 in the final eight minutes.

“Clare came out flat and we didn’t,” Coach Eric Drogt said. “The kids set an intense tone early and played fairly consistent for four quarters. There was some outstanding defensive efforts but as a unit we were out positioned too many times.

“I was pleased with our passing tonight, it was much better than the Roscommon game when we missed many opportunities to score. Six different players had multiple assists. It is nice to see unselfish play on the court,” Drogt said.
