Steven’s Concrete wins close game against Shenanigan’s

Steven’s Concrete defeated Shenanigan’s 5-3 in women’s softball action this week, in a game where defense was emphasized more than offense. Steven’s took a 3-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning, but Shenanigan’s scored two runs in the inning to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the inning Shenanigan’s received a big lift from its defense. Tracey Haggart, Ali Jensenius and Tammy Monday turned a double play to keep the game tied up at three apiece and hold off Steven’s. Although Shenanigan’s was able to hold off Steven’s in the fifth inning, Steven’s would score two runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead, which would eventually be the winning score. Jenn Kummer was the losing pitcher for Shenanigan’s. Leading the hitting for the losing team was Julie Newman, 2-3; Nikki VanHorn 1-2 with an RBI. Jensenius and Tara Nichols each also had RBI’s. In other games reported Select Specialty Hospital defeated G’s 11-8; Mid Michigan Health beat Basic Communications 28-1; Limberlost beat Sparks Electric 25-5; North Shore Lounge defeated Funky Turtle 35-0; and Old Town beat E-Z Built Homes 19-1. Games between Sergeant’s Excavating vs. Hans & Feet were not reported. Select Specialty Hospital 11, G’s Pizzeria 8 Vicki Hoornstra was the winning pitcher in the game. The leading batters for the game were LeeAnn Cohee, 3-3; Malinda George, 3-3; Melissa Wyers, 2-2; Jen Christensen 2-2; Heather McCullough 2-3. Mid Michigan Health 28, Basic Communications 1 Mid Michigan Health played five innings and never scored less than three runs in any inning, including a 13 run rally in the second inning that effectively took Basic Communications out of the game. DeeDee Gavin was the winning pitcher for Mid Michigan. The leading hitters were Jenny Tozer, 5-5 with two doubles and Vicki Lorenz, 3-6 with two doubles. Limberlost 25, Sparks Electric 5 Kiley Howes was the winning pitcher for the Limberlost in a six-inning rout of Sparks Electric. Limberlost scored very evenly throughout the game to slowly increase their lead to a margin that Sparks had no chance to overcome. Leading the way for Limberlost was Teresa Stuck, 3-4 with a home run; Jamie Lineberry, 5-5 with two doubles; Howes, 5-5; Kelly Naylor, 3-4; Erin Call, 3-4; and Heather Denen, 3-5. Kristen Wilhite was 3-3 with a home run to lead Sparks Electric. North Shore 35, Funky Turtle 0 North Shore Lounge only needed four at-bats to score an unbelievable 35 runs against Funky Turtle, who failed to score a single run. North Shore tallied three runs in the first, 16 runs in the second, nine in the third and seven in the fourth. Leading the way for North Shore was Vikki Blanchard, batting a perfect 5-5. Barb Hallett also batted 5-5 to lead North Shore. Old Town 19, E-Z Built Homes 1 Old Town only allowed one run in five innings on defense while mounting 19 of their own to take a five-inning mercy win against E-Z Built Homes. Tammy Steel was the winning pitcher for Old Town and Nicole Combs was her catcher. Jamie Ripke led Old Town in batting, going 4-4 with three triples and one double. Steel batted 3-4; Combs was 2-3; Shantall McNeil was 2-3; and Brenda Rayment was also 2-3.
