The Roscommon varsity baseball team split in its two games against Ogemaw Heights May 22, losing the first game 3-2 and winning the second 6-2. Ogemaw Heights 3, RHS 2 The game was tied 2-2 heading into the seventh and final inning, but Ogemaw notched one run in the top of the frame to put the pressure on the Bucks. More ... The Beaverton Beavers dominated both games of the May 17 double header against the varsity Roscommon Lady Bucks softball team, allowing zero runs after the first inning in both games. The Beavers took game one 13-1 and game two 12-2. More ... Houghton Lake scored 10 goals and allowed eight goals over the past three games, but the ratio did not equate to wins. The Bobcats fell to Tawas, 5-1, on May 17 and Burt Lake, 3-1, on May 21. The Cats did beat Forest Area 8-0 May 18. More ... A program by the Houghton Lake Bobcat Boosters will allow businesses to advertise on sports fields. Advertisers can receive an entire school year of advertising on the Bobcat Field as well as either the baseball field, softball field or Bobcat Field for track activities for one price. More ... The Roscommon varsity soccer team defeated its last three opponents in convincing fashion, dominating Forest Area 9-1, shutting out Grayling 6-0 on May 18 and shutting out Gladwin 3-0 on May 21. The Lady Bucks' offense has been led mostly by the strength of Caitlyn Waller's leg. She tallied 7 out of the 18 goals in the threegame stretch. More ... Two Houghton Lake High School athletes and one Roscommon High School athlete are headed to the State Division 3 Track and Field Finals June 2 at Comstock Park. The athletes earned a spot in the tournament by finishing in the top two in the East Jordan Regional May 19. Rebecca Fracassa, 13, a part-time resident of Houghton Lake, won a bronze medal Saturday in an open juvenile free skate flight at the Ann Arbor Springtime Invitational. The prestigious annual four-day event attracted figure skaters from as far away as Singapore. It was the 52nd career medal for Fracassa, who trains with the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club. The camp is for kids ages 6 to 14 and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from July 9-11 at the Houghton Lake High School. More ... Mark Vick, a 1995 Houghton Lake High School graduate, will return this summer to conduct the fourth annual Mark Vick Championship Basketball Camp at Houghton Lake Middle School. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 18-21 and is for boys and girls in grades 3 - 8. The gym will open at 8 a.m. for parents wishing to drop their child off early. More ... The "contractors" topped the "firefighters" in Roscommon County Habitat for Humanity's "Battle of the Bravest" Sunday at the Houghton Lake High School to claim the "golden hammer" trophy. More ...
