Grayling to 'rock' with air show

The United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will be among headliners at the Grayling Rock 'n Roll Air Show on July 7-8.

The "Rock 'n Roll" portion of the show consists of the 14 bands scheduled to perform for the evening's entertainment. Headliners are Blackfoot on Saturday evening and Molly Hatchet and Slowride featuring original "Foghat" member Tony Stevens on Sunday evening. Other bands scheduled include Tequila Town Band, 60 Second Crush, Raymond Harris, Copper Ridge, Badd Habits, Dirt Road Logic, Alexander Kent Blues Band, MR-HYDE, The Spirit of the Outlaws, Whitey Morgan and South Normal. Miss Michigan is also scheduled to make an appearance on Saturday.

The Air Show will spotlight not only the Army Golden Knights, but also the U.S. Army Reserve Blue Devils Horse Platoon, and the Army Marksmanship Interactive Trailer. The Army virtual reality interactive display which is 130' by 130' will also be at the show. Recruiters from the Michigan National Guard, U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and the Coast Guard will be present.

Military displays, the National Guard NASCAR car, Mobile Mountain, VRS Wind Tunnel, climbing wall and more will be on display. Other acts scheduled include aerobatic pilots, Bill Stein with his Edge 540 Custom aircraft, Jacquie B, flying the Red Eagle Pitts S-1T BI-plane, and Allen "Attila" Smith flying his L-39 Soviet Fighter Jet. GrayOut Aerosports offers an aerobatic act and opportunities for the general public to purchase rides.

The air event, brainchild of "Special Forces Ventures, Inc.", recently joined forces with Raymond Harris, a country singer who has given concerts at over 75 military bases nationwide.

Friday night will be a free family night for viewing of the displays and planes. A family pass for Saturday or Sunday's show is offered for $90 which includes two adult tickets and two youth tickets (11-17). Kids 10 and under are free. Seniors 60 and above are $15. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. with a noon show.
