Family Night to be Sept. 13 at training grounds

Parents and their children may attend Family Night at the Roscommon Fire Training Grounds Sept. 13.

The fun begins at 4:30 p.m., with a fire safety show set for 6:30 p.m. and a magic show at 7 p.m. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., food will be served. Those attending will receive free hot dogs, pop, chips and ice cream cones.

Members of the Roscommon and Houghton Lake Masonic Lodges, assisted by deputies from the Roscommon County Sheriff's Department, will provide a child identification program known as Chips. The kit includes a child's DNA, picture, dental impression and more. All of the information is put on a CD and given to parents or guardians.

Midwest Life Savers will present an animated and interactive show on home fire safety with Max the fire dog.

Gerrish Township Fire Cadets will offer life-saving information as guests are guided through their smoke trailer.

The Crawford-Roscommon Conservation District will provide pinecone bird feeders and bracelets to make and take. Also, the Missaukee Soil Conservation District will host a duck pond and groundwater display.

The Association to Rescue Kritters will bring birds of prey and offer information on caring for wildlife. The Home Depot will have projects to make and take, and the Army National Guard will challenge guests' basketball skills.

Pillows the Clown will have surprises and prizes. Topping off the evening is a 45-minute magic show by magician Bruce Pandoff of St. Clair Shores at 7 p.m.
