Top spot solely Rosco's as kickers down Pioneers

The Roscommon Bucks varsity soccer sits alone atop the Northern Michigan Soccer League standings thanks to a 6-3 win over the Clare Pioneers Sept. 12.

Both teams were undefeated in league play going into the contest but a four goal first half paved the way to a Roscommon win. The Bucks led 4-1 at the half before each team added two goals in the second half.

Cody Barnes scored twice while Jarrid Lake, Matt Stone, Peter Tomasek and Jonas Medinger each had a goal. Lake's goal came off a penalty kick and he also had an assist.

"Clare outplayed us at times. If things keep going the way they have been we'll see Clare in the league championship match," Coach Mark Dalak said. "We played a solid game but they capitalized on our breakdowns/weak moments."

Dalak said the Bucks were coming off a "huge win" (they beat Gladwin 7-0 two days earlier) and he thought that may have "slowed" his squad down.

"For some reason, after a big win, we got complacent," Dalak said. "We're getting better at playing 80 minutes as the season rolls on, though. We are still struggling to find that perfect lineup. Unfortunately, outside factors (our own fault) are determining who goes where. Hopefully our team can realize our true potential. The season is half over, if that happens, we'll be tough to beat."
