River House to celebrate 20 years of service

River House, Inc., will celebrate 20 years of providing services to families of domestic violence, sexual violence and homelessness by hosting a "Weekend for River House."

The celebration and fund-raiser will take place Oct. 13-14. The weekend will begin with a breakfast and tour of the shelter Oct. 13. Tickets for this event are $10 per person or $30 for a family.

That evening, River House will host an evening of dinner and jazz. "The Event" will be from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Historical Playhouse. Guests will listen to music provided by Loiacono, "The Mombo King," and will be able to purchase commemorative wine glasses and sample a variety of Michigan wines.

Wooden car races will also be available to guests. Wagers may be placed on wooden cars sponsored by area police agencies and businesses. Tickets for "The Event" are $75 per person.

A high tea and raffle drawing will be held at Camp CoBeAc Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. A silent auction will be held, and guests can listen to music by State Rep. Joel Sheltrown, D-West Branch. Tickets for the tea are $50 per person.

In addition to these events, businesses and churches are sponsoring their own special events to further support the "Weekend for River House." As people go to church, shop, purchase gas, dineout or canoe, they may be asked if they would like to support River House.

Sponsorships range from $20 for a race car to $500 for the entire weekend. Program ads may also be purchased.

Proceeds for all events will help River House continue to provide safety and empowerment to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and homelessness in Crawford, Ogemaw, Oscoda and Roscommon Counties.
