Tracks lead deputies to suspect in larceny

An Owosso man reported several items worth almost $800 stolen from his truck in Roscommon Township.

The man told Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies he and his son were at Houghton Lake Dec. 27, when his son went to the vehicle to retrieve his coat, which was still inside a Dick's Sporting Goods shopping bag. When his son could not locate the coat, the victim searched his vehicle and discovered several items missing, including a Nextel cell phone, Nike jacket, LeapFrog game system, titanium sunglasses, Reebok tennis shoes and gloves.

Deputies followed footprints in the snow along M-55 and located the stolen property, still in the shopping bag. The cell phone was found separately in the snow and apparently had fallen out of the bag.

Officers arrested a suspect they found walking in the vicinity, whose shoeprints matched those leading away from the vehicle.
