Buzzer beater lifts Rosco frosh over Bobcat cagers
A 3-pointer by Dylan Barnes at the final buzzer capped-off a 20- point fourth quarter and gave the Roscommon High School boys freshman basketball team a 38-37 win over Houghton Lake Friday.
Trailing 30-18 entering the fourth quarter, the Bucks heated up in the final stanza to outscore the Bobcats 20-7. The Bobcats had held an 18-9 lead at the half before the Bucks outscored them 29-19 in the second half.
Bobcat Coach Ken Warner said it was a "great comeback" by Roscommon and a "tough loss" for his team.
The Bobcats were led by Zane Backus' 11 points while 10 other Bobcats scored in the contest, including Matt Webster and Ryan Rowley with four points apiece, Eric Goodwin and Jared Orban with three points each, and Josh McNeill, Brandon Hodges, Dale Boudrie, Steve Press, Jim Dunn and Danny Qiu with two points apiece. Warner said Backus' scoring and Orban's hustle and steals on defense were highlights for his squad.
Coach Brad Stauffer's Bucks were led by Chris Romps' 10 points - eight of which came in the fourth quarter. Also scoring were Barnes with nine, A.J. Gojcaj with eight, Richie Tillman with seven and Michael Firman and Danny Massara with two each.
