The Roscommon Bucks will face the Petoskey Northmen April 23 for a chance to move on to the overall championship round of Central Michigan University Public Television's "Quiz Central." Registration for the spring, summer and fall semesters is underway at Mid Michigan Community College. The spring semester starts May 12 and, although the fall semester does not begin until Aug. 23, it is important that students register early for best selection of classes. More ... Students in Mrs. Paula Youngberg's class collected the most pennies ($1,500 worth) among the kindergarten classes at Collins Elementary during a recent penny drive to assist the Darlene Lubaski family, who lost their home to a fire in February. The class from each grade that collected the most earned an ice cream party: Mary Fullmer's first graders, 14,800 pennies; Michelle Averill's second graders, 17,000 pennies; and Ann Shavalia's third graders, 10,375 pennies. Also earning parties were classes of Julie Krause and Diane Rustad, in appreciation for counting and wrapping all the pennies. Eighth grade students from Houghton Lake Middle School recently visited Kirtland Community College's main campus near Roscommon for an "Exploration Days" tour. More ... Students from Mrs. Cheryl Plainte's class at Roscommon Elementary School present a play to their schoolmates April 11. The plot revolved around children taking a field trip to a nursing home. With the help of the Acting Up Theatre Company, the school's fourth grade classes produced several plays that demonstrated good citizenship. (RP) More ... The Roscommon County Area Pilots Association is accepting applications from high school seniors in Roscommon County. The deadline is May 20. More ... A 4-H camp, intended for children ages eight to 12, will be held at the YMCA Camp Timbers at Clear Lake, just north of West Branch, June 11 through 13. The cost is $82 for registered 4-H members, and $92 for nonmembers. Campers are housed in cabins spaced among trees and along the lake's edge. More ... The Houghton Lake Middle School honor roll included in last week's Resorter incorrectly spelled the last name of Calvin Fancher. Fancher, a sixth grader, was named to the school's "A" honor roll.
