Ethan O. ‘Corky’ Whitehead

Ethan O. "Corky" Whitehead, 72, Houghton Lake, died June 29, 2008, at home. The Rev. Robert Lockhart will officiate a memorial service July 22 at Houghton Lake Church of God at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be the same day from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, handled arrangements. Condolences and guest register are available at www.christler-holdship.com. Mr. Whitehead was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Flint, to the late George Scott and Nellie Lillian (Conklin) Whitehead. He married Marilyn Doucette in 1953 at Houghton Lake. His wife preceded him in death in 1959. He worked for many years for Don Widdis Excavating and Paving, Houghton Lake. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962. He was a life member of the Houghton Lake Eagles, a member of Houghton Lake VFW Post 4034, and a very active volunteer with many local charities. Also predeceased were his son, Jimmy; great-granddaughter, Brittany; sister, Leora McGowan; and four brothers, George, Cecil, John and Junior. Surviving are two sons, David Meaker and George Scott and his wife Julie Whitehead of Florida; five daughters, Vicki Marcello of Houghton Lake, Roxanne Flynn of Lansing, Kimberly Doucette of Missouri, Ronda and her husband Jim Duby of Plainwell and Deborah and her husband Dave Roberts of Houghton Lake; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elmina Goode of Houghton Lake.
