Nearly 30 from county vie in Special Olympics
      Roscommon County was well represented at the 2008 Michigan Special Olympics Summer Games. Twenty-nine county athletes joined 3,000 from around the state for the event at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. Bud team loses 18-6 to Kilkare, returns to beat Bud Light 15-0
      The adage "what goes around comes around," worked for the Budweiser Houghton Lake Men's Softball League team Monday night. Budweiser took a whipping from LJ's Kilkare 18-6 but came back in their second game to defeat Bud Light 15-0.

Dona Marcoullier lead 26 laps to capture 'Topless' feature
      Gentle winds, soft fluffy clouds and warm temperatures on the first day of Summer created the perfect evening for the "Topless 100" at Merritt Speedway. With drivers starting time trials fans enjoyed their first look at these topless racers, as both cars and trucks had no roofs.

Dog walk turns into bear spotting
      Chuck Edwards of Prudenville reported to the Resorter an interesting encounter he had while walking his dog last week. Edwards, who lives on Hazelwood Drive in Prudenville, was walking his Westie/poodle mix the morning of June 16 when the pair spotted a bear.

      Only two games were reported in the Houghton Lake Women's Softball League Thursday night. Spikehorn Bar defeated Mikey's Girls-Beloved Dreamz 3-2 and G's Pizzeria downed BooBoos 7-5.
