Bud team loses 18-6 to Kilkare, returns to beat Bud Light 15-0

The play went through but Budweiser fell 18-6. (Photo by Thomas Reznich) The adage "what goes around comes around," worked for the Budweiser Houghton Lake Men's Softball League team Monday night. Budweiser took a whipping from LJ's Kilkare 18-6 but came back in their second game to defeat Bud Light 15-0.

In other games Booners stomped the Monsters 27-19, Funky Turtle I cooked its teammates Funky Turtle II 16-7, Pressure Crack defeated F & T Roofing 11-6 and Limberlost clobbered Shenanigan's 22-11. There was no report from G's and Green's or Long Branch and Coyles.

Budweiser 6

Kilkare 18

Kilkare didn't show any mercy to Budweiser belting out seven runs in the 6th inning for the victory.

Don Gibbons was the winning pitcher while John Loiacano, Sr., took the loss.

Ken Hall hit 3-3 for Kilkare and all three hits were home runs. Mike Collins and Pat Gibbons both batted 4-4 and Lloyd Shall was 3- 4.

Bill Ingelson, Bobby Gulick, Jamie Kowalsky and Johnny Griffis were 2-3 for Budweiser.

Budweiser 15

Bud Light 0

Bud Light had a bad night at the plate to the advantage of Budweiser who mercied them in five innings. Budweiser opened with five 1st inning runs, six runs scored in the 3rd inning and four runs scored in the 4th inning.

Denny Griffis was the winning pitcher while Jim Livingston took the loss.

Hitting for Budweiser was David Aldridge and Lou Neff who both hit 3-3, Neff had a two run home run.

Bud Light didn't record any hits.

Limberlost 22

Shenanigan's 11

Limberlost scored six runs in each the 1st and 2nd innings before Shenanigan's scored its first three runs in the 3rd inning. Limberlost added five runs in the 5th inning and four more in the 6th. Shenanigan's had six runners score in the 4th inning and two in the 5th.

Dave DeRuiter was the winning pitcher with help from Josh Biel. Walt Mikula took the loss.

Greg Kauffman hit 4-4 with a home run, Bob Tocco was 4-4, Kent Bergstrom 4-4 with a home run, Ryan Hoffman 3-5, DeRuiter 2-4 with a home run, Mike Mieske 2-4 and Blaine Hose and Biel had home runs. Limberlost is the last undefeated team.

Pressure Crack 11

F & T 6

Five unanswered runs in the 5th inning gave Pressure Crack its victory over F & T. The score was tied 5-5 after three innings. Both teams scored solo runners in the 5th inning.

Tom Blanchard was the winning pitcher while Rick Bonnacci was the loser.

Todd Bigford and Blanchard led the offense for Pressure Crack each hitting 3-3 with a home run each. Danny Blanchard, Jimmy Meigs, Kevin Ackley and Stu McDonald all had two hits each.

Bill Jammer hit 2-3 with a home run and double for F & T, Jason Ripke, Fred Tooker, Marky Sisco, Dan Luzon and Greg Mannor were 2-3.

Funky Turtle I 16

Funky Turtle II 7

Consistent hitting by Funky Turtle I was the key to their victory scoring in all but two innings. They opened with a 5-0 1st inning lead then built it to 8-4 in the 2nd inning keeping their margin through the 3rd inning. In the 4th inning they scored three runners then added two more in the 5th inning and closing out with three runs in the 7th inning.

Alan Norris got the pitching victory while Rod Nelson took the loss.

Hitting for Funky Turtle I were Jimmy Wise 2-4, Casey Bangert 3- 3, Scott Gasper 2-4, Josh Lund, Jake Straub and Charles Johnston all 3-4 with two RBIs and Kenny Kosceilecki 2-4 with three RBIs and a home run.

Leading Funky Turtle II's offense was Doug Grance, Pete Naiukow and Ethan McDaniels who all hit 2-3 and Silas McDaniels 2-4.

Booners 27

Monsters 19

Booners scored runners in every inning and scored 10 in the 5th inning to put away the Monsters. Booners opened with a 4-3 lead in the 1st inning and kept the Monsters at bay the rest of the game.

Yogi Patterson was the winning pitcher.

Walt Roy hit 5-5 with two home runs for Booners, Brian Kann was 5-6 with a home run, Mike Kann 4-5 and two home runs, Rick Tuttle 4-6 and two home runs, Greg David 5-5 and Dean Horn 3-6 with a home run.
