Chairman 'disheartened' over conflict of interest claim
      The issue of Larry Paxton's membership on the board of Preserve Our Water Access Right of Ways (POWAR) was brought up at the Roscommon County Road Commission meeting on June 26 by a Higgins Lake lakefront property owner. Mother says to tell couple 'great show' for fireworks
      The fireworks in Roscommon on the 4th of July were really spectacular this year. I wonder how many people realized they were sponsored by Jim's Collision in Roscommon. Jim and Laura Witt have worked hard raising the funds and handling all the arrangements to make this display possible.

Ambassadors say thanks before heading to Europe
      We are the Houghton Lake Ambassadors of Music. We are part of a larger band from across Northern Michigan who will travel to Europe July 18 to perform in seven countries. With one rehearsal under our belt, we are looking forward to three more rehearsals before traveling to England, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Italy.

Funland owner says thanks with free rides on waterslide
      I am honored that Funland Amusement Park was noted in the "Best of Houghton Lake for Kids by Kids." I've been at Funland for 22 years and have seen a lot of happy kids over the years. I am deeply moved by how many kids have enjoyed this park as much as I have over the years. I have seen two generations of kids pass through here.

Caring community 'not poor in spirit'
      It is so nice to report that a local business is so honest. I was shopping at our Houghton Lake Bart's Fruit Market and accidentally dropped a $10 bill. When I got home, I called to see if by chance anyone had found it and sure enough someone had turned it in and the store employee held it for me.

Keep 'free' in freedom, writer says
      I have a big concern. If an association can take away our Constitutional rights to Freedom of speech, then what and who will be taking away other freedoms that we have. There is a "sign" here all right and we better be paying attention to who we vote for and what we allow to happen.
