Some area post offices to change business hours
      Area U.S. Post Offices will soon adjust their lobby and retail hours in order to keep prices stable. As of July 26, some offices will adjust retail window operations and some will eliminate Saturday retail window operations. Sponsors win awards for Bluegill Fest parade floats
      Winners of float competition in the July 6 St. Helen Bluegill Festival parade have been announced. The award for best use of the parade theme, "59 & Fabulous: A parade of Heroes, Fables and Fairy Tales," went to the Cedar Inn for its "Future American Heroes" entry.

Detour in place for F-97 traffic
      Through July 28, a portion of F-97 north of St. Helen will be closed for construction. The box culvert at Marsh Creek (approximately one mile north of the Old 76 / F-97 split) will be removed and replaced. A detour for traffic will be in place during construction.

Judge nixes Mason Tract drilling

      Couples of all ages were stepping lively on the huge dance floor under the Houghton Lake Music Festival's giant tent over the weekend. People came from all over the country to attend the second annual three-day event, featuring several Polka bands.

Village council appoints trustee
      The Roscommon Village Council July 14 appointed Dawn Dodge to a vacant seat on the council. Dodge has served on the board of the Roscommon Cooperative Nursery School. She is a Roscommon High School graduate and earned a degree in court reporting at Ferris State University.
