Car plows over sign, fences, runs into furniture store
      An out-of-control car knocked down a sign and fences before plowing into a furniture store in Denton Township July 19. The driver, Bonnie M. Bielicki, 54, 375 Country Court, Houghton Lake, told Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies she fell asleep while driving on M-55 near Elmwood Avenue at 7:05 a.m.

Boat motor, cycle helmet stolen
      A Southgate man reported his boat motor was stolen from his Roscommon Township home sometime earlier this month. The man told troopers from the Houghton Lake State Police post the 14-horsepower motor was taken from the 14-foot boat sometime between July 6, when he had left the home, and July 17, when he reported the theft. The motor was stolen by removing the bolts.

Campaign signs vandalized
      Seven yard signs and two metal poles belonging to a candidate for Roscommon County Sheriff were reported damaged in Roscommon Township July 18. Randall J. Stevenson, Houghton Lake, told Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies someone bent nine metal poles July 15 and damaged seven campaign signs two days later. Stevenson said the damage totaled $53.

83RD DISTRICT COURT
      Judge Daniel L. Sutton recently arraigned the following in 83rd District Court, Roscommon: Michelle L. Bauknecht, 48, Houghton Lake, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to 34th Circuit Court where she entered a guilty plea to driving while intoxicated, third offense. Michigan State Police, Houghton Lake, made the July 9 arrest. Bond was set at $25,000.

Man arrested for assault at motel
      A Roscommon man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman at the Roscommon Motel, where they both live. A witness told Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies the 48-year-old man argued with two women who were sitting outside an apartment, then followed them into the apartment of one of the women, where the assault occurred.

Michigan safety belt use reaches record high of 96.2%
      Following the annual two-week "Buckle Up or Pay Up. Click it or Ticket." safety belt mobilization in May, safety belt usage in Michigan has increased to a new record high of 96.2%, according to the just-released direct observation statewide survey provided by the Wayne State University Transportation Research Group.
