A Williamston man suspected in a downstate shooting took his own life Tuesday evening after troopers from the Houghton Lake State Police Post stopped the car in which he was riding on US-127. According to Det. Sgt. Tim Lenhard, Charles R. Humble, 50, was a suspect in a shooting in Williamston, between Lansing and Howell, about 2:30 p.m. that day. More...

Roscommon County Commissioners Wednesday approved a letter of intent to adopt an ordinance allowing use of off-road vehicles on some county road rights-of-way. Gov. Jennifer Granholm July 17 signed a law giving counties the authority to take that action. More...

A committee, "Citizens for Education," has been working on strategies to get the bond proposal passed Aug. 5, Houghton Lake Community School Superintendent Pete Injasoulian reported to the board Monday.
