Williamston man takes life here after downstate shooting
A Williamston man suspected in a downstate shooting took his own life Tuesday evening after troopers from the Houghton Lake State Police Post stopped the car in which he was riding on US-127. According to Det. Sgt. Tim Lenhard, Charles R. Humble, 50, was a suspect in a shooting in Williamston, between Lansing and Howell, about 2:30 p.m. that day. More...
County begins process to adopt ORV ordinance

Roscommon County Commissioners Wednesday approved a letter of intent to adopt an ordinance allowing use of off-road vehicles on some county road rights-of-way. Gov. Jennifer Granholm July 17 signed a law giving counties the authority to take that action. More...

Deputies charge two with resisting

Two people were arrested for resisting and obstructing police after incidents at Houghton Lake last week. Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies said they pursued a 46-year-old Freeland driver after he passed too close to a patrol car and another vehicle at a traffic stop on M-55 near Chippewa Trail in Denton Township July 18. Committee working toward passage of bond proposal

A committee, "Citizens for Education," has been working on strategies to get the bond proposal passed Aug. 5, Houghton Lake Community School Superintendent Pete Injasoulian reported to the board Monday.
