'Carvers Country Buffet' opened in West Branch

Carvers Country Buffet, an innovative concept in buffet dining, opened recently in West Branch. Combining a wide selection of food types with attentive, friendly service, Carvers Country Buffet aims to attract customers looking for a classic dining experience with an old-fashioned country feel.

The owners of Carvers Country Buffet, Rick and Denise MacKenzie, who also own Coyles Restaurant at Houghton Lake, believe they have a successful concept despite the slow economy.

"Diners want a winning combination of good value, comfortable dining and great food when they go out to eat. That combination becomes even more important given high gas prices. That's where Carvers fits in," Rick MacKenzie said.

Carvers¿ is competitively priced with a lunch buffet featuring 18 hot items, soup, salad, bread and dessert bar and refillable beverages for $7.50, with special prices for kids, seniors and golfers. The restaurant also plans Friday and Saturday night gourmet seafood buffets. Diners can select from carved meats, chilled shrimp, frog legs, baked and fried fish and more with beverages for $13. Buffets will also include a "delectable" range of desserts.

Another key feature of Carvers will be the "carver."

"I'm from the United Kingdom originally and in England a buffet is called a Carvery because there is a carver present. And that will be a focus of Carvers Country Buffet every dinner. During the week we will carve at least one meat every night, usually beef. On Friday and Saturday nights we'll usually carve three meats and there will always be carved turkey or pork on Sundays," Denise MacKenzie said.

Carvers Country Buffet will be celebrating its grand opening from July 21 to 25 with lots of special promotions, games and prizes. Carvers Country Buffet has banquet facilities that can accommodate parties up to 180 people. Party prices are available for groups of 20 and up.
