State Police at Houghton Lake apprehended four minors who admitted to being responsible for a string of car thefts, larcenies and cases of malicious destruction of property at Houghton Lake over an eight day period.

Tpr. Scott Bates said the minors apprehended included two 16-year-old females, one from South Lyon and the other from New Hudson, and two males from Houghton Lake, one 13, the other 15. He said the offenses included four car thefts, three cases of malicious destruction of property to motor vehicles, several larcenies from motor vehicles and several other malicious destruction of property cases that occurred on or near Old Trail Drive and East Houghton Lake Drive between July 24 and Aug. 1.

He said after the youths were apprehended on Aug. 3 "doing donuts" in a stolen van in the parking lot behind the Quality Inn at Houghton Lake, they admitted to the offenses. Bates said a list of damages caused by the crime spree, which he said will total over $20,000, will be handed over to the Roscommon County Prosecutor and Probate Court for adjudication.
