Waiting for a taste

(Above, left to right) Chef Jake Smith and Food and Beverage Director Rick Coates of Forest Dunes serve Bob and Rita Fay of Higgins Lake during the Roscommon County Community Foundation's "Taste of Roscommon County" at the East Bay Lakeside Lodge in Prudenville Sunday. Mary Fry, RCCF Executive Director, said more than 350 people attended the event, which is meant to thank donors for supporting local projects and programs through grants provided by her organization. Food offerings from eight area eateries were rated by the appreciative crowd, with Maple Valley Restaurant taking first place, B.R. Guest Ritchings Family Restaurant of Prudenville second and The Landmark Restaurant of Higgins Lake third. Entertainment was provided by the steel drum band formerly known as Rusting Steel (left) and State Representative and saxophone player Joel Sheltrown. Fry said the RCCF also presented a plaque to Houghton Lake Resorter Publisher Tom Hamp for his long years of service to the organization.
