A Houghton Lake Heights man entered pleas in 34th Circuit Court, Roscommon, Tuesday, in connection with the Feb. 28 accident that killed Nora Wills, 53, Houghton Lake, and her two dogs. With the recent passage of a $7.1 million bond proposal, Houghton Lake Community Schools can now move forward with the upgrading of its facilities. Superintendent Pete Injasoulian told the board of education Monday that while many projects will have to wait until next spring, some projects may be done while school is in session. More...

Water spouts from a new well at the Pines Theatre Tuesday as well driller Will Fairbotham looks on. Eric Fischer of F&F Well Drilling, Prudenville, said they replaced the theatre's 40-year-old well, which was 65 feet deep with a five-inch well 120 feet deep. Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land recently announced that 1.36 million voters cast ballots in the Aug. 5 primary election, based on unofficial returns. Judge Daniel L. Sutton recently arraigned the following in 83rd District Court: George L. Richardson, 44, Higgins Lake, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, third offense. The Roscommon County Sheriff's Department made the July 8 arrest. Bond was set at $50,000. More...
