Construction of sledding hill underway, donations sought

Work has begun on a permanent sledding hill for the children of St. Helen.

The Richfield Township board approved a request by the St. Helen Chamber of Commerce, to construct a permanent sledding hill, after the "Jones Mountain" was a big hit with children during last winter's Winterfest. The completely snow-built hill, constructed by Jeff Jones last winter, lasted all season but having enough snow to construct it can not always be counted on.

The township park board chose a permanent location for the hill, at the popular Richfield Township Park, and prepping the location is already in progress. A donation check was received by township supervisor Richard Wood, from Marylee Almas, Jan Waltz and Kitty Jakubos, to begin construction of the hill for the kids.

Further donations towards the sledding hill can be directed to the St. Helen Chamber of Commerce or to the township, noting that it's for the construction of "Jones Mountain." Organizers hope to have a snow-covered "mountain" in place for next February's Winterfest.
