These three examples of Detroit iron (photographed in the pumpkin patch at Bart's Fruit Market in Prudenville) will be among over 100 classic and custom cars at the 11th annual Pumpkin Run Car Show and Cruise this Friday through Sunday. The event will be held at the Atrium Plaza Hotel (formerly the Quality Inn) at Houghton Lake, and will begin Friday with registration at 4 p.m. accompanied by a cook-out for registrants and a poker run beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday registration begins at 7 a.m., and the day will include live entertainment both before and after a cruise around Houghton Lake which starts at 4 p.m. Sunday is the awards ceremony and will also feature live entertainment. Allegations against Richfield Township Treasurer Judy Scroggin were dismissed in 34th Circuit Court, Roscommon, Monday from a lawsuit filed by the former proprietors of a St. Helen restaurant. Judge Michael J. Baumgartner granted a motion to dismiss Scroggin from a lawsuit filed in May by Scott and Loraina Taylor, who then were proprietors of the Dawg House restaurant. More...

Ned Wickes, Higgins Lake, signs in Tuesday at the Gallimore Boarding House's annual birthday party for those who are 89 or older. Wickes said it was actually his birthday that day and he turned 91. Roscommon County Commissioners Tuesday approved a three-year contract as the county's 911 director with Montmorency County Undersheriff and 911 Director Patricia Wiley. It took four games, but Roscommon's varsity volleyball team defeated Clare to remain perfect in Jack Pine Conference play at 3-0. I have to say "hooah" to (USMC Retired) Larry Kepler's letter of Sept. 4. We in Roscommon County are living in a Gestapo-like police state. I am a career firefighter of 25-plus years and do not condone drunk driving in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, I don't believe .08 is drunk.
