DNR hunting preview - Part II
      Prospects for the 2008-2009 hunting seasons are excellent, according to Department of Natural Resources officials, with several new opportunities available to big-game hunters this year. As always, the DNR encourages hunters to introduce the pastime to friends and family members, especially youngsters.

OVER 500 POUNDS
     Russ Blake of Wyoming, MI bagged this black bear, which weighed in at over 500 pounds, in the Reedsburg Dam area Sept. 25. Lyman Foster of Lyman's Bait Shop at Houghton Lake said Blake bagged the big boar with a .44 caliber handgun, and said it was bigger than another bear he shot which is currently the state handgun record bear. Blake said the bear will be measured by both Commemorative Bucks of Michigan and Boone and Crocket. 'Bowling' coming to Grayling center
      The Grayling Senior Center, 308 Lawndale, has partnered with the MSU Extension Office to bring virtual bowling to seniors, using Nintendo's Wii system. A representative from the Extension office and area students will be at the senior center on the second Tuesday of each month, starting Oct. 9, at 3:30 p.m. to teach seniors virtual bowling using Wii.
