Denton Township emergency personnel look over the scene of an accident involving a car and a Houghton Lake Community Schools Bus on the afternoon of Oct. 1. According to a report by Denton Township Police, a car driven by Mary Frappier, 82, of Houghton Lake was eastbound on Emery Road when it struck the back of the bus, which had its flashing lights on and was letting off students about 120 feet east of Townline Road. Frappier was trapped in her vehicle, and she and one of the students who was getting off the bus at the time of the crash were taken to the West Branch Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. County commission approves ordinance

After months of debate, Roscommon County Commissioners Wednesday adopted an ordinance allowing off-road vehicle traffic on some county roads. Once the ordinance takes effect Nov. 15, year-round ORV traffic will be allowed on about 24 miles of county roads, including Old 27, that link trails with business areas. Trying to rectify a long-time drainage problem in the neighborhood of Nottingham, Victory and Mary streets in Lake Township, the Roscommon County Road Commission last week undertook a fall cleaning of sorts. Judge Daniel L. Sutton recently arraigned the following in 83rd District Court: Donald J. Yelinek II, 42, Grayling, waived preliminary examination on a charge of driving while intoxicated, third offense, and was bound over to Circuit Court where he entered a guilty plea. A double overtime goal by Bellaire ended the Houghton Lake varsity soccer squad's Northern Michigan Soccer League season Tuesday night in Bellaire. A 1-1 tie in regulation led to overtime where the Eagles scored halfway through the second extra period off a throw-in.
