Injasoulian to re-retire

Kevin Humble of Maple Valley, who had great success growing Dill's Atlantic Giant pumpkins last year, grew even bigger pumpkins this year using seeds he saved from his 2007 crop. He said two of them were considerably larger than the 400-pounder his garden produced in 2007 from three plants in his garden. "Growing conditions were pretty good once we got past that frost early in the season," Humble said. The pumpkins grew as much as two to four inches a day. He gave a 210-pound pumpkin to a relative, but the others are still on display in his yard at 2645 South Maple Valley Road. Humble is still not satisfied. "I'm doing some crosspollinating to see if I can get some bigger ones," he said. (RP) More...
State Police at the Houghton Lake Post took several reports on cases involving thefts of property last week. A 56-year-old Houghton Lake man called police on Oct. 19 to report that someone had stolen the electric motor and controller from his boat hoist at his residence at 8610 West Houghton Lake Drive (M-55).
