'Thumbelina' takes stage

      "Thumbelina" came to life Nov. 18 in performances by the Houghton Lake High School drama class. A 20-member cast from the drama class presented the play the evening of Nov. 18, following a performance by a separate cast of drama students earlier in the day for students from Collins Elementary.

Thanksgiving meal tradition continues in Owaski's room

      Wrapping up lessons in reading, measuring, preparing food and the history of Thanksgiving into one big recipe of learning, Collins Elementary's Gloria Owaski continued her fifth grade tradition of making a Thanksgiving dinner in class again this year.

FIRST PERFECT ATTENDANCE OF THE YEAR
     Eighty-six Collins Elementary students in kindergarten through third grade had perfect attendance the first marking period, along with five staff members, Paula Youngberg, Rosalyn Wolfsen, Donna Pettyjohn, Kelly Jock and Alicia Ciaramitaro. They were awarded certificates of achievement and gift certificates to McDonald's, for which the staff expressed its appreciation. (CHP)

Bucks try to defend title on WCMU's 'Quiz Central'
      The Roscommon Bucks opened their WCMU "Quiz Central" season Wednesday night as they faced the Boyne City Ramblers. CMU Public Television's original program, "Quiz Central," now in its fourth season, includes 36 teams from Central and Northern Michigan.

      Skeels Christian School announced its honor roll students for the first quarter of the 2008-09 school year. Registration slated at KCC
      Early registration for Kirtland Community College's 2009 winter semester will be held Dec. 1-2 and 3-5. The Dec. 1-2 registration sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the Dec. 3-5 sessions from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winter classes start Jan. 10.

      Roscommon High and Middle School students will kick off the Gerrish-Higgins School District Christmas concert season next week with their "Fall into Winter" series. The high school band and choir will perform Dec. 1 and seventh and eighth grade bands and choirs Dec. 2. Fifth and sixth grade bands and choirs will present their conert Dec. 8.

Grant information incorrect
      Information on a school-based health clinic grant in a Houghton Lake Community Schools story in last week's Resorter was incorrect. School Link Coordinator Tracy Wilson of MidMichigan Health Park said the clinics at Houghton Lake High School and Roscommon Middle School are not currently operating 30 hours per week, as stated in the article.
