Emily Elsholz, 20, of Saginaw and her quarter horse Midnight Rosebud negotiate a turn during pole bending competition at the 2008 All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, OH in October. The granddaughter of Carolyn and Terry Elsholz of Merritt and Janet and Larry Porath of Houghton Lake, Emily and Rosebud placed first in novice amateur pole bending, ninth in amateur pole bending, fifth in novice amateur barrel racing and fifth in amateur barrel racing. The horse and rider were the only team to place both in barrel racing and pole bending at the event, which Cheryl Malette, Emily's mother, said is the "largest horse show in the world, with over 8,500 quarter horses from throughout the world" competing through the month of October.
