Recount slated in bond election The Roscommon County Board of Canvassers is scheduled next week to recount Houghton Lake Community Schools bond issue votes cast in the May 6 election. County Clerk Ann Bonk said the request for the recount was received in her office May 9. School district Superintendent Peter Injasoulian said private citizens paid the filing fee for the request. Canvassers will convene in the Denton Township Hall at 9 a.m. May 21 to conduct the recount. The original tally, certified by the canvassers last week, showed the school district's proposal for a tax of 60 cents per $1,000 taxable value for 20 years to repay bonds for mechanical and technical upgrades lost by two votes, 1,129 "no" to 1,127 "yes." Voters in Roscommon Township and the Missaukee County portion of the district favored the bond issue by a margin of 338-288. But majorities of opposition were recorded in Lake Township, 120- 90; Backus and south Richfield Townships, 57-37; and Markey Township, 158-156. In Denton Township, the overall count was tied, 506-506. |
