Au Sable's only 2008 contest to be decided in GOP primary The only political action in Au Sable Township this year will be one race in next Tuesday's primary election. SUPERVISOR Joe Meadows and former Supervisor Jack E. Sheppard are vying for the Republican nomination for supervisor. Since no Democrats are running for the office, the primary winner will almost certainly be elected in November. Incumbent Supervisor Bruce Willett is not seeking another term. Meadows provided the Resorter with no information on his candidacy. Sheppard, 59, previously served as supervisor for 10 years. He has lived in the township 40 years. He was employed by the Roscommon County Sheriff's Department 25 years, retiring in 2003 as detective sergeant. He continues to work for the department part-time in civil process. He is assistant chief of the Higgins Township Fire Department and previously was chief of the South Branch Township Fire Department. He provided the Resorter with no information on his 2008 candidacy. NO CONTESTS
All other township officials are running for reelection without opposition from either party. They are Clerk Robert R. Berg, a Democrat, and Treasurer Nancy Schwalm and Trustees Ron Sharpe and Cathy L. Meadows, all Republicans.
