Walter 'Burns' Edwards

Walter "Burns" Edwards, 76, Roscommon, died Aug. 17, 2008, at Mercy Hospital.

A service will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon. Mr. Edwards' brother, Pastor Thomas Edwards, will officiate the service. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, with full military honors provided by Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159.

Mr. Edwards was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Birchleaf, VA. His parents were Tivis and Barbara Alice (Colley) Edwards. He and Marie Annette Davis were united in marriage Sept. 1, 1956, in Warren. He moved to Roscommon 14 years ago from Warren.

For 44 years he worked as a crane operator and retired in 1994 from LTV Steel in Ferndale. He was a life member of Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159. He bowled in many leagues, formerly at Fred's and Northway Lanes. He enjoyed Blue Grass music and played fiddle, guitar and banjo.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He had served during the Korean War.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, James Ayers Edwards; and sister, Lillian Baker.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; five children, Pamela Edwards of Hancock, Mark Edwards and his partner Kim Smith of Roscommon, Eric Edwards of Roscommon, Polly and her husband Jimmie Henderson of Hamtramck, and Angela Edwards and her partner Al Glenn of Bland, Missouri; grandchildren: Jacklyn, Jennifer, Andrew and Michelle; greatgrandchildren: Jasmine and Jacob; siblings, Shirley and her husband Howard Edwards of Ferndale, Leonard Edwards of Virginia, Geneva Edwards of Hazel Park, Edgar and his wife Ethel Edwards of Virginia, Lena Edwards of Virginia, Joan and her husband Connie Counts of Sterling Heights, Janice and her husband Jackie Brock of Tennessee and Thomas Edwards of Warren; two sisters-in-law, Leona and her husband Holley Hundley of Roscommon and Mildred and her husband Robert Hundley of Roscommon; and many nieces and nephews.
