Volunteers to clean up Au Sable Saturday

To keep the Au Sable clean for all to enjoy, the Au Sable Big Water Preservation Association and Huron Pines AmeriCorps are co-sponsoring a clean-up this Saturday.

Volunteers will meet in Mio and clean downstream to Alcona Pond on Sept. 6. According to organizers, this stretch of river needs attention as it draws "a tremendous amount of seasonal traffic, and unfortunately too much gets left behind."

Volunteers should meet at the MDOT landing on M-33 at 8 a.m. for coffee, donuts and instructions. Volunteers are urged to bring waders if they can and an appetite, for immediately following the clean-up a barbecue will be held at the Evergreen Club. During the barbecue there will be a chance to win a number of prizes ranging from a Sage Z-Axis fly rod to gift cards.
