CUTTING THE RIBBON

Roscommon County officials cut the ribbon officially opening the new county animal shelter on M-18 in Denton Township Sept. 12. Pictured, left to right, are Ron Eno, former equalization director who helped oversee the project; Pat Regel, a member of the animal shelter committee; Marc Milburn and Ed Nellist, county commissioners; Terry MacKillop, shelter director; Larry Mead, county commission chairman; Cheryl Mollard, county controller; and Lowell Souder and Bob Schneider, commissioners. The 8,245-square foot facility, for which county voters in 2006 approved a property tax of 25 cents per $1,000 taxable value, will replace a shelter in Roscommon which dates back to the 1950's. An open house was held Sept. 13, and a grand opening is planned next month. (RP)
