William Robert Balsley
A service was held Sept. 30 at Grace Bible Church, with Pastor Roger Rose and Pastor Maynard Belt officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Nelson House Funeral Home, Owosso, handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Bible Church or Gideons International. On-line condolences to the family may be left at www.nelson-house.com. Mr. Balsley was born on Dec. 20, 1922, in Detroit, the son of William H. and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Balsley. He attended Redford High School in Detroit and Detroit Bible College. He and Pauline Elizabeth Jimison were married June 8, 1942, in Detroit. She preceded him in death Sept. 14, 2004. Mr. Balsley was a devout Christian business man and a licensed minister who assisted in planting new churches. He provided his musical talents as well as serving churches in their jail ministries. He was a salesman in various areas, including industry and real estate. He had owned and operated his own 7-UP distributorship in Florida. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing shuffleboard. He was a member of Gideons International and Rotary International. Also predeceased were his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his three sons, Robert William and his wife Lois Balsley of Prudenville, Gary Keith and his wife Lonna Balsley of Lake Odessa and William Robert Jr. and his wife Elsie Balsley of Farmington Hills; daughter, Barbara Beth Wild of Farmington Hills; 10 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; sister, Elizabeth and her husband Lester Haney of Empire; and several nieces and nephews.
