"We had chances to win and were competitive throughout the game, but we didn't put the ball in the net."
That was Houghton Lake Soccer Coach Scott Bockelman's assessment of a 3-1 loss against the visiting Oscoda Owls at Bobcat Field Oct. 1, as well as of many other games this season which the 'Cats played well in and then lost.
After ending the first half down 2-0, with both goals coming on headers for the Owls, the Bobcats scored one in the second half as senior goal keeper Cam Warner, who started as a midfielder for the first time this season, scored on a loose ball in front of the Oscoda goal.
Freshman Adam Frey, who replaced Warner in goal for the game, acquitted himself well, making many saves, including one in the first half on a penalty kick.

The Bobcats, now 3-11-2 on the season, were scheduled to play their Northern Michigan Soccer League cross over game at Bellaire Tuesday, host non-conference Grayling Wednesday, then meet the Owls for a rematch at Oscoda Oct. 13 in the first round of District Tournament play.
