Assault suspect nabbed in Macomb

A Macomb man was arrested in Macomb County after fleeing Richfield Township Police officers who were investigating his alleged involvement in a domestic assault case Jan. 2. Ronald E. Sass, 34, Macomb, demanded preliminary examination in 83rd District Court, Roscommon, Monday on charges of fourth degree fleeing and eluding, kidnapping and felonious assault. More...

Nellist, Schneider to chair board

Ed Nellist of Dist. 1 and Bob Schneider of Dist. 3 were elected chairman and vice-chairman in 3-2 votes at the 2009 organizational meeting of the Roscommon County Board of Commissioners Wednesday. Team captains for the Relay for Life of Roscommon County will meet Jan. 12 at the American Legion Hall, Houghton Lake. • State Police report snowmobile mishaps
State Police from the Houghton Lake Post handled three snowmobile mishaps last week, two resulting in injuries. On Jan. 4, troopers were summoned to Higgins Lake, where they found rider Grozdan Ristovski, 51, of Shelby Township, atop his snowmobile about 75 yards out from the foot of Dewey Avenue in Lyon Township, mired in open water about a foot deep. Myrtle Irene Moore, Higgins Lake, died at the age of 88 Jan. 7, 2009, at Mercy Manor, Grayling. Pastor Andrew Gookin will officiate a service Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m at Messiah Lutheran Church, Roscommon. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
