Consolidation study continues
On behalf of the Citizens for Township Consolidation, I would like to request you publish the following to keep the general population advised of our status.
Dave Emmons of the organizing group is continuing to review budgets. The final budget was received, just the end of last week. The process to review and analyze each township budget takes time, and now we will be able to put all 11 budgets together to determine the bottom line in combining the budgets of all townships. Combining these will provide for a total cost within the county. This will define the budgetary cost, including wages, taxes, insurance, pensions and office operation expenses for the 11 areas. The object of exploring the consolidation is to determine if many dollars could/should be reduced in the interest of the taxpayers. This group has spent much time in the process and we haven't forgotten you, the public. Our goal is to save taxpayers, by reducing expenses.
As each of you know, many of our residents are snow birds and are away for much of the winter. To assemble a public meeting at this time is not fair to those who are away. It also will not indicate to us what the real interest is within the population. Meeting dates will be publicized to keep you informed when public meetings will be held.
Meanwhile, we welcome your comments indicating your support or non-support. Possibly the group will decide to do a survey within Roscommon County to give us a true feeling of the people here, who would be impacted by such a change. We would welcome any contribution of postage stamps, bond paper, envelopes for continued mailings to the media and other appropriate entities. Please contact us with your name, address, zip code, phone number and e-mail address if you have one. This will enable us to get back in touch with you. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 685, Prudenville, MI 48651-0685. We need the support of all of you. Please step up to the plate; let us know what you are willing to do, your area of expertise or interest. Thank you.
