Buck grapplers find tough going at Individual State

The five Roscommon High School wrestlers who competed in the Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Palace of Auburn Hills last week did not win medals in their respective weight classes, but brought home competition experience against some of the top wrestlers in the state.

At 103 pounds, freshman Dustin Noreyko won his opening round bout against Richmond's Casey Martin, then lost to sophomore Bryan Restini (second place) of Allendale. Noreyko then lost a 5-4 decision to sophomore Tyler Foley (eighth place) of South Lyon East.

Senior Dustin Verbeke lost his first 112-pound test against sophomore Joey White (third place) of Dundee, then won his first consolation match against junior Alex Rodriguez of Shelby. He finished with a loss to sophomore Brandt Welcher (eighth place) of Hamilton.

Roscommon junior Eric Meyer was beaten by his 152-pound opponent senior Sean White (second place) of Shelby, then won a consolation match against junior Chris Bachus of Jackson Lumen Christi. Meyer then fell in a 3-1 decision to Bruce Barnes (eighth place) of Erie- Mason.

Senior Ryan Vogel started out against 215-pound senior Mike Lasinski (second place) of Goodrich and lost by fall at 3:30 of the second round. He lost his consolation match to junior Garrett Woods of Marshall.

Junior Matt Compo lost by fall to eventual Heavyweight Champion senior Ethan Lambes of Onsted in his first round match, then lost by a fall to senior Carl Billings of Yale in his consolation match. Roscommon sophomore heavyweight Steven Rondo lost by 6-2 decision in his first round match to junior Gauge Aebersold (fifth place) of Onsted, then lost his consolation match to senior Cody Van- Donkelaar (seventh place) of Muskegon by a fall in the second round.
