Houghton Lake artists win awards

Not pictured are Wendy Kerr and Candice Mosher. (TRP) Works of art by students at Houghton Lake High School gained recognition and won awards at two Northern Michigan art shows this spring.

On April 25, the work of 23 Houghton Lake students was featured in the AuSable River Expo Watershed Art Project student exhibition, where it won a $100 award for being the best group of student art work. Art student Jeremy Sawyers also won the award for Best Oils/Acrylics work.

Other Houghton Lake students participating in the show included Cody Frantz (three pieces), Kyle Hunt, Wendy Kerr, April Kyte (five pieces), Brittany Kowalski, Katie Martin, Willis Mims, Diana Murray, Danny Qiu, Melissa Brady, Lacey Brown, Grant Carlson, Mark Hittle, Gulwish Jawed, Evan Kwater, Erik Lovenstein, Nicole Ranville, Heather Serviss, Becky Tinney, Ashley Walser, Zach Youngs and Paige Zmuda.

Eleven students also had their work selected for the Northwestern High School Art Exhibition in Traverse City in March, including Mims, who won Honorable Mention for a torn paper transparency piece.
