New scholarship fund benefits Kirtland nursing students
      A Grayling area family has found a way to remember a lost loved one, while also helping nursing students attending Kirtland Community College. Paul Hill recently approached the president of Kirtland Community College, Dr. Tom Quinn, at a meeting.

     Ice cream and cookies were awarded to teachers and staff with perfect attendance records and nearly perfect attendance records June 3. Pictured are (left to right): Houghton Lake Middle School Principal Susan Tyer, third grade teacher Rosalyn Wolfsen (perfect record), Superintendent Pete Injasoulian (perfect record), and kindergarten teacher Paula Youngberg. Ten employees had perfect records, Sue Williams, Mike Shaltz, Amber Sergeant, Matt Lewis, Jack Kramer, Cindy Bedell, Karen Demers, Alicia Ciaramitaro, Wolfsen and Injasoulian. Wigard awarded boating industry scholarship
      Justin Wigard of Houghton Lake, a student at Central Michigan University, has been selected as one of 14 students to receive the Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation award for the 2009-10 school year. The RBIEF awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarship funds to the students.

'Robot Wars' take center stage at camp
      Mid Michigan Community College is holding a Robot Wars Summer Camp July 13-17 and 20-24 at its Harrison Campus. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and enrollment includes a t-shirt, safety glasses, an FM "bug" transmitter kit, one Sumovore Mini Robot and a daily snack and drink. Additionally, students get to take home their robots at the end of the camp.

Stouffer earned MBA from Northwood
      Houghton Lake resident Daniel R. Stouffer Jr. was recently awarded his master of business administration degree. Stouffer received the degree from the Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management during spring commencement ceremonies at Northwood University.

Stuck receives BA from Aquinas
      Sybil Stuck, daughter or Tanna Stuck and Steve Stuck, received a bachelor of science in business administration degree from Aquinas College on May 9. Stuck graduated cum laude, maintaining a 3.5 grade point average or higher throughout her college career.

      Anna Sylvester of Roscommon graduated on May 16 from Spring Arbor University. During commencement exercises she received her Master of Arts in organizational management.

School retirees to meet July 20
      The July meeting of the Roscommon Chapter of Retired School Personnel will be held at Coyles Restaurant, Houghton Lake July 20. Registration is at 10 a.m. with a short business meeting to follow. Three of the past recipients of RARSP scholarships will speak on the impact of those scholarships. Larry Meier will also give an "Update on Cormorants.
