RCCF HELPS G-H
     Dr. Millie Mellgren (left), superintendent of the Gerrish-Higgins School District, and Mary Fry, executive director of Roscommon County Community Foundation, hold a check in the amount of $2,786 awarded to the school district by the RCCF recently. The grant covered the cost of the "Stand Strength Team" assemblies held last spring at Roscommon Middle and High Schools. The grant also covered the cost of new materials for elementary students designed to help students stay on track, make healthy choices, stay involved in school and avoid bullying, violence, alcohol and drugs. COOR opens door for 'seat-time waivers'
      COOR Intermediate School District recently presented its six constituent school districts with an opportunity for students to use on-line learning to gain credits for graduation. Under current school code, students are allowed two additional online credits per year as part of their regular high school program.

RHS students boost scores on Michigan Merit Exam
      Roscommon High School students improved in every category of the Michigan Merit Exam this year, scoring above the state average across the board. In reading, the RHS average score was 77, up from 63 last year. The state average was 60.

Zachary Burnside awarded GVSU Faculty Scholarship
      Zachary Burnside, Houghton Lake High School salutatorian, has been named a recipient of a Faculty Scholarship to Grand Valley State University. To be considered for a Faculty Scholarship, the recipient must have a 3.6 high school grade point average, a minimum ACT score of 29 and attend a scholarship competition.
