‘NeXt Connect ‘ aims to help students prepare for college

Roscommon High School students in grades 10 through 12 who want to prepare for college will begin meeting Dec.15 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 109 at the high school. The group, called NeXt Connect, led by the Rev. Dr. Jim Kent.

“There are lots of things high school students should be doing now to prepare for college,” said Kent, who has been taking students on tours of college campuses since 1976. “Our group will meet once a month and examine all aspects of college readiness, including academic, financial, and physical and emotional health.”

NeXt Connect will help students with high school course selection, study skills, preparation for college entrance exams, developing a college selection process, career exploration, communicating with parents, how to meet all deadlines and how to succeed at college.

Kent received an award from Michigan State University for connecting students there for 20 years in a row. He serves as the alumni student and coordinates the baccalaureate at graduation. He will soon begin his 30th year as pastor of the Markey Community Baptist Church.

For information, Kent may be reached at 821-5490 or jimkent@ umich.edu.
