ALL-STATE ACCOLADES

Houghton Lake High School senior linebacker Mason Boals was named Sunday to the Detroit Free Press’ Division 5 All-State First Team. The 6’2”, 182-pound Boals led the Bobcats in tackles and said he worked hard in the off-season, pumped iron with Assistant Coach Tom Blanchard and “just gave it my all on the field.” Boals added that his uncle, Mark Boals, received the same honor in 1988. Boals’ teammate, senior Cliff Winkler, also received post-season honors when he was named to Honorable Mention by the Associated Press in its Division 5-6 All-State Michigan football team.
