83rd District Court

Judge Daniel L. Sutton recently arraigned the following in 83rd District Court, Roscommon:

Stephen R. Baldwin, 33, Mio, waived preliminary examination on a charge of possession of methamphetamine/ecstasy, second offense, and was bound over to 34th Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to an amended charge (first offense). The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department made the arrest. The date of offense was Dec. 22, 2009. Bond was set at $10,000. Baldwin will be sentenced in Circuit Court.

Jeremy S. Merithew, 29, Houghton Lake, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to Circuit Court, where he pleaded no contest to AIDS – sexual penetration with uninformed partner. The sheriff’s department made the arrest. The date of offense was Dec. 11-16, 2009. Bond was set at $5,000. Merithew will be sentenced in Circuit Court.

Freddy T. Prince, 29, Roscommon, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to resisting and obstructing a police officer. The sheriff’s department made the Dec. 17, 2009, arrest. Bond was set at $25,000. Prince will be sentenced in Circuit Court.

The following demanded preliminary examination within 14 days on charges filed against them:

Robert J. Englehardt, 50, St. Helen, interfering with electronic communications. Richfield Township Police made the Dec. 23, 2009, arrest. Bond was set at $2,500.

Michael J. Laffrey, 58, Roscommon, driving while intoxicated, third offense. The sheriff’s department made the Dec. 31, 2009, arrest. Bond was set at $5,000.

Roy C. O’Neil, 42, Grand Ledge, eight counts of writing a no-account check. State Police, Houghton Lake, made the arrest. The date of offense was Aug. 4 through Sept. 18, 2009. Bond was set at $70,000.

Damon R. Orlando, 45, Houghton Lake, two counts of larceny from a motor vehicle. State Police, Houghton Lake, made the arrest. The date of offense was Jan. 22, 2009, through Dec. 22, 2009. Bond was set at $25,000.

Jody W. Rolland, 36, St. Helen, prisoner in possession of contraband and possession of analogues, second offense. The sheriff’s department made the arrest. The date of offense was Dec. 28, 2009. Bond was set at $5,000.

The following pleaded guilty to charges filed against them and were sentenced:

Joshua W. Ball, 23, Flushing, impaired driving, $970 in fines costs or restitution, six months probation, and the conviction was reported to the Secretary of State.

Michael P. Holmes, 20, Houghton Lake, impaired driving: $870 in fines, costs or restitution, six months probation, and the conviction was reported to the Secretary of State.

Randy E. Rabb II, 25, St. Helen, impaired driving (controlled substance): 15 days in jail, $1,380 in fines, costs or restitution, 12 months probation, and the conviction was reported to the Secretary of State. The defendant must pay $632 or serve an additional 60 days in jail.

Denise G. Swerdan, 43, Houghton Lake, impaired driving: $1,120 in fines, costs or restitution, six months probation, and the conviction was reported to the Secretary of State. The defendant must pay $532 or serve 60 days in jail.

Mark J. Gebhardt, 59, Houghton Lake, use of marijuana and impaired driving: $1,380 in fines, costs or restitution, six months probation, and 60 days license suspension.
