Warming up dinner
A spaghetti dinner next week can heat a home.
That’s the idea behind the “Warm Hearts = Warm Homes County Wide Spaghetti Dinner” scheduled throughout Roscommon County March 3. The event will raise funds to help county residents pay their heating bills.
With unemployment and poverty high, resources are strained not only for residents but also for community agencies that help provide relief. The spaghetti dinner, which will be held at 17 restaurants throughout the county, will help the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency replenish its fund that will go directly to county residents in need. The idea for the dinner came out of a meeting of the Roscommon County Poverty Reduction Committee. And, as Committee Member Maureen Daugherty said, “the results have been astounding.”
We hope residents will take a night off from cooking at home March 3 and visit one of the participating restaurants for a plate of spaghetti. It is an easy, and delicious, way to help those in need.
“We have restaurants in every sector of our county willing to give a hand and it is so amazing to me how we are such a large county with such a small town sense of family and helping thy neighbor,” Daugherty told the Resorter.
Indeed, it is amazing. Bon Appétit!
