A True St. Patrick’s Tale

Pat Pray and Pat MacMillan Pat Pray and Pat MacMillan By Robert Pray

On a St. Patrick’s day back in 1983, Pat Pray was in the Houghton Lake Moose Club celebrating his birthday. Another Moose member named Pat MacMillan, having overheard the festivities, said it was his birthday as well.

Mr. Pray responded by saying he was a true St. Patty’s Day baby, as he was named Pat. Mr. MacMillan responded with “I am also a Pat and have been for 55 years.” When Mr. Pray said he was also 55, things were just beginning.

They soon learned that they were not only born on the same day but in thesame place, the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor, Ontario.

They soon discovered that both had joined the American navy after high school. Both then moved to Mt. Clemens MI, both married in 1955 and both had four children.

Records have since revealed that the old man, Pat MacMillan, was actually born 10 minutes before Mr. Pray. The two Pats became good friends, and after spending their first St. Patrick’s Day together at the Moose Club, they have been together every St. Pat’s Day since, either in Flordia or here at Houghton Lake.

Now you know the true story of the two Pats. Happy birthday to them and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!

(Editor’s note: Robert Pray, owner of The Fox Golf Course, is the son of Pat Pray, long-time Houghton Lake real estate broker.)
