Lopez repeats as JPC 100m dash champion

Roscommon High School junior Olivia Lopez defended her Jack Pine Conference 100m dash crown May 25th at the league meet in Meridian.

Lopez’s time of 13.03 seconds earned her first place. She also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 27.24 seconds, her third straight top-three finish in that event as well. Lopez’s dominating performances in the sprints led the Bucks to a sixth place finish as a team with 60 points.

On the boys’ side of the competition, the Bucks were led by their 3200m, 800m and 1600m relay squads, who each finished second. State qualifier Eric Rowland also had a good day individually, finishing second in the 400m dash. The Bucks finished third place in the men’s competition with a score of 78 points.

Results included: Girls: 100m dash, Tonya Chouinard, 5th, 13.73; 1600m run, Haley Rhode, 7th, 6:09.30; 400m dash, Chouinard, 7th, 1:07.12; 3200m run, Rohde, 13.34.50; Sara Rowan, 5th, 14:06.50; long jump, Chouinard, 6th, 14’ 10” and pole vault, Crystal Richter, 4th, 8’ 6”.
