Lorrance G. 'Larry' Sumerix

Lorrance G. “Larry” Sumerix, 74, Higgins Lake, died July 17, 2010, at his home.
A celebration of life will be held at his residence Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Roscommon County Community Foundation Gerrish-Higgins Education Fund or the Higgins Lake Foundation.
Mr. Sumerix was born in Charlotte July 29, 1935, to Homer and Florence (Quantell) Sumerix. He had lived in Roscommon for 40 years and was formerly of Caseville and Alma. He and Dorothy J. LeRoy were married Aug. 25, 1956, in Shiawassee County.
He was the band director at Roscommon High School from 1968 to 1991. He also served in that capacity in Caseville for 10 years and in Alma for two years. He was a member of Harmony Meisters Barber Shop Chorus in Gaylord, Sunshine District Barber Shop Chorus in Sebring, FL, and the Michigan High School Band and Orchestra Association where he was a former board member. He enjoyed golf and Higgins Lake.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Jerry Sumerix.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; son, John Sumerix of Albuquerque, NM; four foster children, Don and his wife Sue Warren of Roscommon, Cindy Watterworth (Bill Striplin) of Roswell, Mary and her husband Joe Powers of Grand Blanc and Brian and his wife Sharen Lange of Holt; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Dan, Cristin, Kendall, Gala, Jordan, Mark, Emily and Adam; four great-grandchildren, Brett, Cade, Drew and Emma; and brother, Garry and his wife Marcia Sumerix of Elk Rapids.
